Liliia Oliinyk plays Lullaby by Vasyl Barvinsky

From Six Miniatures on Ukrainian Folk Songs by Vasyl Barvinsky. The composer's masterpiece, a set of six piano "Miniatures on Ukrainian Folk Songs" (1920) includes: 1. "Lullaby": 2. "Ukrainian Dance"; 3. "Hurdy- Gurdy Song"; 4. "Humoresque" ; 5."Dumka" ; 6. "March. " These were extremely popular with pianists as well as with students. Miniatures were first published in 1925 under Universal Edition of Vienna. Vasyl Oleksandrovych Barvinsky (1888 –1963) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor, teacher, and musicologist. Barvinsky was one of the first Ukrainian composers to gain worldwide recognition. His pieces were published not only in the Soviet Union, but also in Vienna, Leipzig, New York, and Japan. Barvinsky directed a post-secondary musical institution in the city of Lviv (1915-1948) the Lysenko Higher Institute of Music, and was considered to be the head of musical life at the time.

Concert for Ukraine

April 4th, 2022

Sunday, April 3 at 3:00 PM, our friends and previous staff musicians Dr. Iuliia Akers (violinist & vocalist) and Dr. Liliia Oliinyk (pianist) will present a benefit concert featuring various violin, piano, and vocal pieces including American songs and Ukrainian folk, classical, and contemporary music.

This concert is free and open to the public. Donations and love offerings are encouraged. All proceeds will go to help Iuliia’s and Liliia’s hometown Kherson in Ukraine. “We both would like to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one in this community.
